Thank you for purchasing “Farallon Islands,” the 19th piece in my Highway 1 Series of original, hand-printed serigraphs. I was walking down a street in San Francisco about 10 years ago on a cool, crystal clear day and was surprised at the sight of islands on the horizon. I had never seen islands out there before–in fact, I wasn’t even sure what I was seeing were islands. So, I began to ask around and finally learned what I had seen were the Farallon Islands. After reading about them a bit, I became even more curious about this mysterious place just off the coast of San Francisco. These rugged islands are truly remarkable. Among the most bio-diverse places on the planet, the Farallons are often compared to the Galapagos Islands. The islands are home to thousands of sea birds and seals and is an important stop for migratory birds, migrating whales and white sharks. It’s caused a number of shipwrecks and is famous for it’s sea urchins (if you’re willing to swim with the sharks to get them). This is an 8 color image, includes 3 metallic inks and required over 1,650 hand-pulled impressions to complete. ~ Jake
