"Santa Monica" the 17th piece in my Highway 1 Series of original, hand-printed serigraphs. I was born in Los Angeles, but moved to Chico with my parents when I was 5 years old. Most summers, we would travel back to Southern California to visit family and friends, so I associate LA with summer vacation by the beach instead of busy freeways. I want this image to reflect the way I felt during those fun-filled summer days spent on the beaches around Santa Monica. The Pacific Wheel is over 80 feet tall and is thought to be the only solar powered Ferris wheel in the world. This print is by far the most complicated illustration I've attempted and the trickiest yet to print and I'm very happy with the results. I hope the bright colors and the easy motion of a carnival ride make you feel like you're on summer vacation too. This is an 8 color image and required countless hours and 1,800 hand-pulled impressions to complete. ~ Jake
